MacBook Air Apple’s latest laptop

The laptop took a new meaning with the newest invention of Apple. It is so thin it fits in a regular manila envelope.
In a speech in front of about 4000 attendees to MacWorld conference (San Francisco), Steve Jobs showed the latest model of laptops: MacBook Air.

With the theatrical style that characterizes him, Steve Jobs took out a regular manila envelope, legal size, and removed a real live Macbook Air. Jobs claimed he have made a comparison with all the current thinnest laptops.

The MacBook Air will be available in stores in two weeks and it will cost $1,799. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It’s 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep. The MacBook Air can get about 5 hours of battery life with wireless networking turned on.

Windows Tips Fix My Slow PC!

Windows Tips - Fix My Slow PC!:
Isn’t it annoying to be surfing the web and all of a sudden, your computer drags to a crawl and you sit impatiently waiting for a page to load or a download to start? There are several common causes of the slowing down effect on your PC. I will discuss the following three things you can do to speed things up a little bit:
 • First, download a recommended registry cleaner
 • Clean and defrag the hard drive
 • Optimize Memory
 • Eliminate unnecessary programs from Loading into memory

Clan and Defrag the Hard Drive

A computer’s hard drive is the primary area on your computer used to store the operating system, applications and all the files you create. The hard drive is divided up into areas called sectors. Each sector can hold a certain amount of data. Each sector is further broken up into address spaces. Each address is unique so the operating system can find the data stored on the hard drive. Windows uses a master file table to store the address locations of every file on the hard drive.
Please notice that I said locations. Most files need more than one address location to store the whole thing. Windows will write each piece of the file in locations next to each other (called contiguous space) if possible. If that is not possible, the operating system finds an empty location and writes the data there. As a result, over time, as you edit different files the pieces of a file can be located all over the hard drive.
For example, this disjoint storage is like you putting your shoes in the garage, your pants in the kitchen, your socks in the bedroom, you shirt in the bathroom and you coat in the attic. Obviously if you did that, if would take a lot longer to get dressed in the morning. The same thing happens with files. When they are spread all over the place, it takes longer for windows to find the individual pieces and load them into memory.
This is why you need to both clean up and defrag your hard drive. The clean up process deletes temporary files, file fragments (pieces left over after being deleted), orphans (data whose owner can’t be determined) and data marked for deletion.
Defragging your hard drive is the process of moving all of the pieces of a file into contiguous space so it can be retrieved faster. The operating system will move data around until it gets all the correct pieces together. To defrag:
 • Turn the screen save off by right clicking anywhere on the desktop
 • Select Properties then click on the Screen Saver tab and select None.
 • Next, select My Computer then right click on the hard drive Select Properties then click on Tools.
 • Select Check Now as shown below to let windows check the hard drive for errors and fix them if necessary. This could take a while so you might want go do something else.
 • When that is finished, select Defragment Now.
This can take a really long time depending on the size of the hard disk. You might as well go do something else because you CANNOT use the computer while it is defragging.
WARNING: DO NOT TURN THE MACHINE OFF UNTIL DEFRAGGING IS COMPLETE OR IT MAY DAMAGE THE HARD DRIVE

Optimize Memory

There is an old saying in the computer field. “You can never have too much memory.” When I say memory I am talking about random access memory or RAM. RAM is the temporary storage area the operating system uses to store data that is being used currently and to load itself in so all of the commands are immediately available for use.
Otherwise, you would have to wait for the data to be retrieved from the hard drive and then be loaded into memory before you could use it. It would be similar to when you are waiting for a web page to download although not as long a wait.
When the system runs out of physical RAM it uses the hard drive as Virtual Memory and does have to retrieve and load data every time you need it. Virtual memory is also called a swap file. Optimizing reduces the need to swap data into and out of the swap file. You want to put as much memory as you can afford or the machine can hold to significantly speed up your machine.

Eliminate Unnecessary Programs from Loading into Memory

When your computer boots up, it loads all kinds of applications into memory. Most of these programs are called terminate and stay resident programs or TSRs. Closing these programs will free up memory and speed up your computer. In fact, it is even better if you don’t load the ones you really don’t need.
To prevent TSRs from loading go to:
 • Start -> Run and type msconfig into the dialog box
 • The System Configuration Utility will open.
 • Select the Startup Tab as shown below.

 • Uncheck any that you don’t use very often.
 • Click OK to exit.
 • Then reboot the computer.
If you don’t know what a file or what a service does, don’t uncheck it.

2 DC Power Connector Problems

Yesterday I received a call for an HP computer after a customer had called other laptop repair shops in town and did not receive a response from any of them. The customer was very satisfied with the quick response and pickup of her laptop. In addition to having a bad dc power connector she requested a new key that was missing. One cool thing that I provide for my clients is pulling necessary data that they need to use while their computer is being worked on. This customer requested a couple of folder off here desktop be emailed to her so she could continue work on her other computer.

The other computer is a Dell Ispiron, not sure of the model right off hand but it also has a bad dc power connector. Most of the newer dells use a better dc power connector that has a shield around it that helps hold the connector together with a center pin. Most of the time its just the center pin that needs resoldered and thats the case with this one.

I dont see either one of these laptops taking more than a couple of hours and hope to knock them out this upcoming weekend.

Adobe Error 2739 for Vista:
Since Adobe products are some of the most popular graphics programs used by both amateur and professional web designers, Adobe errors can be problematical. Many people bought Vista because of its great multimedia capabilities.
The error can occur with either the CS2 or CS3 suite of software such as:
 1. Adobe Photoshop
 2. Adobe Fireworks
 3. Adobe Flash
 4. Adobe Dreamweaver
 5. Adobe CS3 Web Production Premium
If you have a problem you will get an error message similar to the ones listed below:
 • “Setup has encountered an error and needs to close. Error Code: 2739.”
 • “Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe”
 • “Error 2739: Could not access JavaScript runtime for custom action”

How to Fix the Problem

This problem is caused by the jscript.dll not getting properly registered with the operating system. You will have to manually register the dll file in the windows registry. You need to know if you have the 32 bit version of Vista or the 64 bit version. To find out, perform the following steps:
 1. Right click on the My Computer icon on the desktop
 2. Select Properties
 3. Select the General Tab to see which version you have. It will be display next to System Type

How to Repair the 32-bit Version

Perform the following steps to fix the 32-bit version of Vista:
 1. Select Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
 2. Right click on the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator
 3. Go to C:WindowsSystem32> or type or type cd “%systemroot%system32” at the prompt
 4. Type regsvr32 jscript.dll
 5. When the message “DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded” appears, click Ok

How to Repair the 64-bit Version

Perform the following steps to fix the 32-bit version of Vista:
 1. Select Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
 2. Right click on the Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator
 3. Go to C:WindowsSystem32> or type cd “%systemroot%SysWow64” at the prompt
 4. Type regsvr32 jscript.dll
 5. When the message “DllRegisterServer in jscript.dll succeeded” appears, click Ok

Summary

This error is easily repaired. However, you should always run a good registry after you have made any changes to the windows registry file.

Windows Media Player is not responding

Problem :
Its freezes the computer up so bad until you have to manually power down because it says "not responding".

Laptop Model : CQ62-219WM

Operating System : Windows 7 home premium 64-bit

Solution :

It may be worth trying to reset Windows Media Player as follows.

Click the Start Menu and select Control Panel.  Open Programs and Features, Click Turn Windows features on or off, open up Media Features and "untick" Windows Media Player.  Click Yes then OK and then restart the notebook.

When Windows has restarted, click the Start Menu and select Control Panel.  Open Programs and Features, Click Turn Windows features on or off, open up Media Features and "tick" Windows Media Player.  Click Yes then OK and when WMP has finished installing, restart the notebook again.

Next, carry out the following process to force Windows Media Player to re-build the Library Database.

A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.

http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10

This is a zipped file.  If you dont have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.

Make sure Windows Media Player and Windows Media Centre are closed.

Launch Free Commander, double click Users, double click your user name, double click Local Settings, double click Application Data, double click Microsoft and double click Media Player.  Delete all the files that have the extension .wmdb - do not delete any folders.

Close Free Commander and open Windows Media Player - it will now begin to re-build the library database which may take a while.

Credits to Dean for the solution.
